The fact is that willpower isn’t dependable in the heat of the moment. Everyone has a breaking point, and the world is full of temptation. This is why Jesus said we should pray, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Willpower is a powerful thing, but the majority of it should be focused on creating processes and environments conducive to success. Processes and environments trump willpower in the long run. It starts by finding ways to reduce temptation—and asking God for grace to deal with what we cannot control.
