In criminal law, we more or less know the consequences of each action. 1st degree murder in the US, for example, is typically 25 to life whereas petty theft will stain your record but is not likely to lead to jail time. The earthly consequences of sin are more subtle. We reap what we sow, but the timing and effect of lost blessings or acquired consequences is sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to know with precision. Believing that doing the right thing is always in our best interest requires faith.
