Christ was the most powerful human being who ever lived, and he showed the highest regard for “the least of these.” Power in nature and human affairs almost always works the opposite. Power is used as a tool to achieve one’s desires, even at the expense of others, and those without it have no recourse except to obtain more power than the oppressor. We take it for granted, but Christianity is radical indeed when viewed through a historical and empirical lens.
