After Jesus calmed the storm, the disciplines were in awe that “Even the wind and the waves obeyed him.” The weather is the thing we most accept as given. We cannot control the weather, we just accept it. I myself often compare things we cannot control to the weather. “It’s like the weather. You adapt to it. It doesn’t adapt to you.” Christ radicalized the disciplines concept of given through the power of faith. I wonder if there are things in our lives we accept as given maybe because they have always been there or maybe because we haven’t been able to change them in the past that God wants us to command.
