When we say “defeat lust,” we don’t mean a final victory like the Allied Powers defeating and disarming the Nazis and Japan in WW2. What we mean is downgrading and degrading the influence of lust to where it is no longer a stronghold in our lives. Temptations and evil desires can’t be eradicated entirely; even Christ was tempted! But they don’t have to control us. Being in control, to my mind, is a victory for us and a defeat for the other side.
