When our religion becomes all about the fact that we don’t smoke, drink, or do drugs, and nothing about how we love and treat others, then we know we have lost our way. A person who thinks like this has an outward form of religion but lacks the inner substance. The Biblical name for it is “pharisee”—the people Christ fought with more than any other group.
James 1:27 still applies: “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
