Any time that you start some sort of self-improvement regiment or practice that is going to change your life in a significant way, it is very natural for other people who are around you or close to you, be they close friends or family members, to have not only an opinion about it, but to feel a certain way. You are all members of the same tribe, you all are all friends, because you have certain things in common. And so it’s quite natural, quite human for other people to want you to stay on the same level as them.
In some cultures, they call it to “the tall poppy syndrome” or “crabs in a barrel, they pull you down.” I don’t think it’s bad, I just think that it’s human. As long as you’re aware of that, you can decide whether or not you’re going to share it with them. Always remember, you have to grow in life, and if you find that the people around you aren’t supportive, you can always find new people who have the same interests.
