Struggling with an issue does not erode one’s credibility to speak on it. What erodes one’s credibility to speak on an issue is hypocrisy. People who struggle with an issue (or have struggled with it in the past) tend to understand it a lot better than those who haven’t. And they are able to empathize. Struggle, it follows, is actually a unique qualification, granted that people are honest about their shortcomings.
