I Was Addicted To Porn At Age 12 (Mark’s Story)

“I’m just so happy I’m not a part of it anymore, and it feels good.” -Mark

Mark’s first exposure to porn took place at a young age. And just like so many other guys before him, it led to an ensnaring addiction that lasted for many years before finally being able to break free (Source: FightTheNewDrug.org). I’ve transcribed Mark’s testimony down below. Mark doesn’t say a whole lot, which is why everyone should pay close attention. His message to the world is simple: don’t go down the same path I did. For people already entangled in pornography, it is never to late to get free.

I remember going to a concert when I was like maybe 12, and I remember seeing this band, and it just clicked for me, I was like I’m going to do this. I want to be a musician. I created a band–it went really well and the singer left. I just wanted to keep going at it because when you love something, you don’t stop. I like putting out my lyrics and my feelings and hopefully it goes out to other people, even if it doesn’t reach 1,000 people. Even if it’s just 1 person, it makes me feel good as a person. It helps me get away.

To me music is a magical thing. Honestly, I don’t know what I’d be doing without it. It’s helped me through a lot of things. It’s been a good release for me but that definitely wasn’t always the case. . .

I was in third grade, and me and my friend were searching through the channels on cable TV. I remember the exact channel was 99. There was a naked lady, and for some reason–even at that age–it just caught our eye. The internet became more of a thing, and I remember just searching and searching online, and I was only 12 when it really started to be a consistent thing. It really became a drug to me. I wouldn’t want to do other things. I just wanted to go right to the internet and search. The videos just don’t stop.

I have gone through times where I wanted to be in an intimate relationship with a girl, and I couldn’t because I was thinking about the computer. It really got to the point where it just broke my heart. When you want a healthy relationship, you can’t search–fast-forward into a marriage–it’s like you go online and you can just type in the exact girl you want to see, and the exact whatever you want to see online. And you can find it exactly and fast-forward to that next seen of whatever. With real life, it’s not like that. That makes no sense.

I promise you, you don’t want to get started with it. You don’t want to look at it. Nowadays, being clean, I feel so much more positive in my relationships. I’m just so happy I’m not a part of it anymore, and it feels good. It feels good. Just know if you’re going through this, there can be an end to it, and you don’t need it. And you will find that it is better to be free.

Due to research over the last several years, we are finally starting to recognize the harmful effects of pornography on individuals, relationships, and society. To learn more visit fightthenewdrug.org #PornKillsLove [Message on Screen]
