People we label as “mean” are typically people whose predominant life experience has been one of negative emotion (i.e. pain), oftentimes dating back to their childhood or some life trauma.
In our interactions with them, we can choose to fight fire with fire, or we can take the path of understanding, and give them the only thing that could ever get them to change for the better: love and kindness.
It is liberating when we come to realize that their behavior never had anything to do with us in the first place.
